Verl “Marven” Truman, Jr. of Osceola, formerly of Lacona and Melcher-Dallas, died
Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines after a long
battle with kidney failure. Marven was born on September 30, 1946, in Knoxville.
He was the only child of Mary Lucille Turner and Verl Marvin Truman Sr. Marven graduated
from Central College in Pella, Iowa, on June 14, 1969, with a BA. He was united
in marriage to Diana Terry on January 21, 1977. To this union two children were
born. The couple celebrated 28 years of marriage this year.
Marven loved his family and friends dearly. This past August his first grandchild,
Tristan Cook, was born.
Marven, always a farmer at heart, had a never-ending love affair with nature. He
enjoyed planting and watching the fruits of his labor flourish. He loved life and
triumphed despite his illness. Survivors include his wife of 28-years, Diana; one
son, Matthew Truman of Lacona; one daughter Deanna Truman-Cook and her husband,
Jeremy Cook of West Liberty; one grandchild, Tristan Cook of West Liberty and his
father, Verl Marvin Truman, Sr. of Osceola.
Preceding Marven in death were his mother, Mary Lucille Truman, and daughter, Suzanne
Truman.
Funeral services were held on Friday, October 21, 2005, at 2 p.m., at Williams Funeral
Home in Knoxville with Pastor Randall Cormeny officiating. Interment was in Greenwood
Cemetery, rural Marion County, Iowa. Casket bearers were Darryl Terry, Johnny Terry,
Kenneth Terry, Richard Terry, Roger Terry and Bobby Brooks. Musical selections were
“The Old Rugged Cross” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus”. Tiffany Beaty was the
vocalist. Jim Kidder was the organist. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Melcher, Iowa. Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville
handled the arrangements
