Meeting Minutes for April 13, 2011
Pennie Sommar called the meeting to order on April 13, 2011 at Swamp Fox.
Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary:
Terry Edwards reported that an additional $100 donation from the Con Cunningham
memorial had been received for SOS. Ruby Dursky has added information about the
past KHS trophies that KAA has acquired on the KAA website. The Annual Alumni Letter
is also on the website.
Pennie reported that to date over $300 per month has been collected from pop can
redemptions. She also said that the Marion County Care Facility will begin their
can redemption on May 3, and Pennie will contact them to see if they would also
collect and sort the cans. Pennie reported that she has been in contact with a salvage
‘recycling’ company who are very interested in obtaining many of the items in the
Old Junior High building for resale, and 50 percent of the profits would go to SOS.
They also said they would increase that percentage if SOS could obtain volunteers
to help empty the building, possibly on April 30. The committee in Des Moines trying
to save the Valley Barn near the Valley High School has contacted Pennie for ideas
to help their project.
Stadium Update:
The historical plaque and K Club bricks should be completed soon at the SW corner of the stadium. If additional funds can be raised, the additional 200 seats and tuck pointing on the visitor’s side will be completed this year.
Homecoming Update:
The 1976 KHS Football Team will be honored at the Homecoming game on September 23, 2011.
Pennie asked for football game video clips to play at the Homecoming Dance.
New Business:
Dodge/Motor Inn Promotion:
On June 11, 2001 Dodge and Motor Inn will sponsor a promotion to benefit SOS. $20 will be donated to SOS for every test drive of a Dodge vehicle, up to a maximum of $5000. Volunteers will sign up names before the event for the test drives at the Knoxville Middle School. Other fundraising events at the event will be a dunk tank, bake sale, face painting, lunch, and a car wash by KHS students. KNIA/KRLS will also broadcast from the Big Red Radio at KMS.
Pennie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was
adjourned. The next meeting will be held on May 11, 2011 at 6:30 PM at
Swamp Fox.
