Meeting Minutes for December 8, 2010

Pennie Sommar called the meeting to order on December 8, 2010 at Swamp Fox.

Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary:
Pennie thanked all those who helped at Living Windows this year. Ann and Bill Adams won the tree raffle, and took the tree home after it had been displayed at the Festival of Trees. Pennie said that the KAA board members did not think SOS would participate next year. Discussion was then held about changes that could be made to encourage the same crowds to come uptown that night, but without the actual living windows done by local groups. It was also thought that having the Christmas Lighted Parade the same night was a great idea.

Treasurer’s Report:
Bills paid include $17,800 to Des Moines Steel Fence Company Inc. for the new fencing around the stadium; $45,563.00 to Construction Services Inc. for the final bill for the new north side seats; and $3,320.44 to TK Concrete for the final bill for the seat calking. The last half of the bill for the Historical Monument Plaque will be paid when received. Payment of these bills will almost deplete the balance of SOS funds. $345 was collected from pop can redemptions for the month of November.

Stadium Update:
Bob Edwards noted that the stone under some of the seats on the south end of the west side looked like they had not been calked or repaired. He will take pictures of the problem areas and submit to Pennie.

Fundraising ideas for consideration:
Terry Edwards talked about the possibility of selling some of the trophies as a fundraiser for SOS. He is working with Ruby to see if there would be interest from alumni members in having an online auction. Terry brought a Panther ornament made by De Jong Manufacturing in New Sharon. It would be too late for a 2010 fundraiser, but may be an idea for next year.

Current Events Update:
Bryan Schlotterback turned in $3503.25 from his 24 Hour Run. There is also a donation pending from Wal-Mart for $250, which will bring the total amount to $3,753.25. There will be Alumni basketball games to be held on February 5, 2011, in conjunction with the Coaches vs. Cancer girl’s basketball game. Alumni members will pay $20 each to participate, and profits will be donated to the American Cancer Association.

Pennie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on January 12, 2011 at 6:30 PM at
Swamp Fox.
