Meeting Minutes for July 14, 2010
Pennie Sommar called the meeting to order on July 14, 2010 at Swamp Fox.
Alonna Gass presented SOS with remaining funds from the Class of 1965 calendar sales.
Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary by Terry Edwards:
Katie Ayers and Tim Shepherd will be invited to serve as the new student liaisons.
Elsie Kemp has agreed to accept the position as bookkeeper for KAA.
The board will wait until the September Annual Meeting to elect a replacement board
member for Linda Hicks.
The August 11 SOS meeting will not be held due to the Knoxville Nationals.
Treasurer’s Report:
Balance of KAA account: $27,653.14
Balance of SOS account: $152,867.10
$350 was collected from pop can redemptions for the month of June.
Proceeds from the Antique Roadshow were $751.51.
Recent memorial donations received: $1535, Jerry Zager memorial; $880, Mick Meyers
memorial; and $1220, Con Cunningham memorial.
Current Events Update:
Celebration Iowa July 19: Taso’s Steakhouse has donated the potatoes, foil, butter
& sour cream for the ham ball meal before the event. Volunteers will meet at Celebrate
Church on Saturday, July 17 at 11:30 to clean and wrap the potatoes.
Connie Husted had received information about Living Windows. The theme this year
will be “Magical Holidays”.
Fundraising ideas for consideration:
Bryan Schlotterback told Terry that he is working on plans for a final fundraising
effort this fall.
Stadium Update:
Stadium Clean-Up will be August 25 at 5:30 pm.
Bids accepted by the Knoxville School Board on July 12 were CSI/architecture expenses,
$46,000; and 200 North side seat additions, $118,489.
Estimates for remaining work to be done: Fencing, $15,000; historical plaque, $5,000;
2 more planters around poles along Robinson Street: $1800; seat cap replacement:
$3000; and $600 for Wall of Pride bricks to be printed. The remaining 200 additional
seats on the South side will be completed next year. Other projects to be completed
next year, funds permitting, are tuck pointing on the Visitors side, painting the
inside of the pool building, and the retaining wall.
Pennie will be submitting an application for the Prairie Meadows grant, due on August
1.
Pennie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was
adjourned. The next meeting will be held on September 8, 2010 at 6:30 PM at
Swamp Fox.
