Meeting Minutes for May 12, 2010
Connie Husted called the meeting to order on May 12, 2010 at Swamp Fox.
Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary: Graduation
will be on May 23, and the rehearsal will be Thursday, May 20. KAA applications
will be available for the seniors, who will be given 5 year free memberships. KAA
donated $250 towards the meal at the Senior Picnic at 3M Park on May 13. The Scholarship
Committee has selected 4 KHS students to be presented KAA Scholarships at the Awards
Presentation on May 19. The SOS Scholarship will be presented by Pennie and Connie;
the Bryan Schlotterback Scholarship to be presented by Bryan; the Class of 1964
Scholarship to be presented by Chuck and Pat Wadle Reeves; and the 5+ Decades of
Spirit Scholarship to be presented by Rita Hayes. The Dollars For Scholars committee
will select the recipient of the KAA endowed scholarship.
Treasurer’s Report: Chuck is out of state, but had reported that
the KAA account balance is approximately $22,000 and the SOS approximately $152,000.
$370 was collected from pop can redemptions for the month of April.
Stadium Update: Connie and Pennie have researched plaques meeting
the requirements set by the Historical Society, and the historical plaque to be
placed on the SW corner will probably be 24 X 36 inches with bronze lettering on
black.
Pennie has submitted a grant request to the Marion County Foundation, which grants
their awards in July. The Prairie Meadows Foundation grant submissions are due on
August 15.
Bob Edwards reported that a clock has been ordered to replace the outside
clock at the bathhouse.
Discussion was held regarding honoring K Club members at the stadium. It was brought
up that originally it had been suggested that the K Club be honored in the gazebo
area, when the Booster Club concession stand is moved.
Current Events Update: The Antique Appraisal Fair was well attended,
and netted approximately a $200 profit. Suggestions were offered regarding holding
the event next year at Pine Knolls Country Club or the KHS Commons.
KAA/SOS will sponsor Celebration Iowa on July 19 at Celebration Church, and provide
a ham ball dinner before the event.
Connie reported that the Knoxville Raceway has scheduled a Motorcycle Race on Homecoming
night, September 17. KAA was reassured that they can still hold the dance at Dyer
Hudson Hall, but there are concerns about parking and noise issues. KAA will contact
the Raceway to see if any of these concerns can be dealt with to some satisfaction.
Fundraising ideas for consideration: Phil Langstraat presented
Pennie with approximately $5000 in checks received from the challenge issued to
his Class of 1961. They hope to raise $10,000 for an endowment scholarship presented
through Dollars for Scholars. Discussion was raised about a Press Release, and ideas
about getting the word out to initiate the same challenge all alumni classes.
Connie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was
adjourned. The next meeting will be held on June 9, 2010 at 6:30 PM at
Swamp Fox.
