Meeting Minutes for April 14, 2010
Connie Husted called the meeting to order on April 14, 2010 at Swamp Fox.
Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary: Terry Edwards
reported that that KHS graduation will be on May 23. The rehearsal will be Thursday,
May 20, where seniors will be given 5 year free memberships to KAA. Pat reported
that seniors will also be given the opportunity to purchase a brick for the class.
The Senior Picnic is scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 and KAA will again contribute
$250.
Terry, Pennie, Connie, Mike and Bob Edwards met with Dr. Flack, Jeff Sinnard, Mark
Mahoney and Tim McDonald at the stadium on April 8 to discuss this year’s SOS goals.
Plans include construction of the 400 additional seats on each side of the current
seats on the Home side; fencing around the stadium; and landscaping around the gazebo
and Panther. A Historical Marker will be placed at the SW corner of the stadium.
The condition of the grass along the new steps at the SW corner was also discussed.
Linda Hicks asked about handicap seating, and Terry said that a location on the
Home side approximately on the 20 yard line would probably be designated for this.
Connie said that the school will allow KAA to use the bathhouse. Pennie has found
a manufacturer to possibly replace the clock on the former bathhouse.
Treasurer’s Report: KAA balance: $18,896.73, SOS balance: $152,666.79,
Pop Cans for March: $445.00
Current Events Update: Linda Hicks said that plans for the April
24 Antique Appraisal Fair at the Marion County Showbarn are proceeding very well.
Volunteers will be needed on Friday, April 23 beginning at 1:00 pm to move tables
and chairs from Dyer Hudson Hall to the Showbarn. Roberta McDonald and Dawna Larson
will run the concession stand which will include beefburgers, hot dogs, homemade
pies and bars, candy and gum. Attendees will be asked if they would be interested
in paying for a home visit by the appraisers at another date.
Pat asked about the possibility of an alumni float in the Nationals Parade August
14. The Class of 1960 will have their own 50 year float. It was discussed that the
former float with the rendition of the stadium is still intact in a building at
the Bingham’s. However, the tires on the trailer are in bad shape and due to the
age, replacement tires have not been found.
Pat reported that 5 names have been selected for the 2010 KAA scholarships. KAA/SOS
will again sponsor Celebration Iowa on July 19 at Celebration Church, and provide
a ham ball dinner before the event.
Fundraising ideas for consideration: Terry contacted Nick Woolsey
about the possibility of a second SOS 5k run this June; however, Nick was unable
to take on the project this year.
Connie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was
adjourned. The next meeting will be held on May 12, 2010 at 6:30 PM at Swamp Fox.
