Meeting Minutes for March 10, 2010
(February meeting cancelled due to weather)
Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary: Connie Husted
reported that 3 new memberships were received in February, and a check for $46 was
presented to the American Cancer Society from the proceeds of the 2nd stadium picture
that had been ordered at the Coaches vs. Cancer event.
A plaque made from Stadium limestone was presented to Bob Dralle in appreciation
of his years serving as Treasurer for S.O.S.
Pennie had checked on the Prairie Meadows grants. The 2010 application will not
be available until May, due in August, and the winner will not be announced until
January 1, 2011.
Treasurer’s Report: Connie reported that the current S.O.S. account balance is $152,206.79,
and the current KAA balance is $18,294.93.
Staci Cunningham has agreed to volunteer as the KAA bookkeeper, and Chuck Reeves
will continue to serve as Treasurer.
$1000 was contributed to S.O.S. by the family of Leroy Winfield.
Current Events Update: Connie reported that the stadium goals to be completed this
year are additional seating and new fencing, and possibly reinforcement of the retaining
wall on the northwest side depending on the funds available.
Fundraising ideas for consideration: Linda Hicks has finalized the brochures for
the Antique Road Show on April 24, and planned the food to be available for purchase.
The cost for use of the Show Barn will be $200.
Homecoming 2010 will be September 17, 2010 vs. Norwalk. Homecoming 2011 will be
September 23, 2011 vs. Carlisle. Pat has forwarded the information to Class reunion
liaisons and Ruby has posted it on the KAA website.
Celebration Iowa will be hosted at Celebrate Church on Monday, July 19. Dinner will
again be served before the event, and there may also be a presentation at Stepping
Stones.
Pat reported that Pizza Hut organization is no longer doing the Celebrity Servers
Night.
Phil Langstraat has issued a challenge to his Class of 1961 to raise money for KAA
scholarships by their 50 year class reunion in 2011. They hope to raise $10,000
for an endowment scholarship presented through Dollars for Scholars. Hopefully other
classes will issue similar challenges.
Connie asked if there was any further business. There was none. She encouraged everyone
to check the KAA website often for updates. The meeting was adjourned. The next
meeting will be held on April 14, 2010 at 6:30 PM at Swamp Fox.
