Meeting Minutes for January 13, 2010
Mayor Don Zoutte:Mayor Zoutte attended our SOS Meeting to see if
there were any who would like to volunteer for city boards. He is trying to attend
all service organizations to promote interest in serving our community. He shared
concern about the city appointed boards being more gender equal.
Meeting with the School Board: Pennie Sommar, Mike Husted, Connie
Husted and Bob Edwards, representing S.O.S. met with the Focus Group, which consists
of school board members Tim McDonald, Mark Mahoney and Superintendent Dr. Randy
Flack, on January 12, 2010 to set the agenda for the stadium work for this spring.
Items discussed: additional seating, small northwest retaining wall by Mother's
Pavilion, fencing around the entire block and tuck pointing the seats on the visitors
side. The group(s) are trying to get as much as possible completed without the involvement
of the architects for cost effectiveness. The new seating is to accommodate 200
on the north and 200 on the south side of the existing seating on the home side.
The new seating will be small retaining walls with grass between the rows to look
similar to the existing seating. The discolored existing seat caps that need to
be replaced will be done as soon as weather permitting at NO COST to SOS. Pennie
discussed the possibility with the board for the pool house to be used by Alumni
during home football games. Alumni will paint-up, clean-up and fix-up and hopefully
be able to use it as a gathering and display area for trophies and pictures that
have been in storage for years. The school board seemed very receptive to this idea.
Upon completion there will be a re-dedication ceremony with placement of the historical
marker provided by funding from the Marion County Foundation and time capsule. We
are anxiously awaiting the arrival of this celebration!!
Pennie announced there
will be an S.O.S. article in the Knoxville Journal this week about our accomplishments
at the stadium.
By our numbers we have paid for approximately 47% of the monies
to renovate the stadium. There is a possibility the S.O.S. pop shed will have to
be moved from the lot where Dick Reed has generously allowed us to keep it. It's
been a great spot, easily assessable to the public for donating their cans. Dick
has been a gracious host! Because of the fire his building sustained in December,
it was suggested by Bob Edwards for SOS to donate the monies to help defray Dick's
cost for a large dumpster to help in the clean-up his building. The pop shed will
be moved to a different location in the same block where it is now located.
Treasurer’s Report:Current SOS balance is approximately $146,720.79
Monies in :
$1,675.00 donation from Marion Kennedy, KHS Class of '68, Memorial
$1500.00 from Hormel for Bryan's Run
