Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary:
Pennie announced the 2009-2010 Knoxville Alumni Association officers:
Treasurer’s Report:
The SOS account has been combined with the Knoxville Alumni Association as a separate category. This move is possible due to the new computer and software. Current SOS balance is $131,000.
Events Update:
Pat Kading stated that $3000 net profit was made by SOS from the Homecoming Dance, $3,700 from the cheerleaders alone. $1500 in donations was collected for SOS, and $1000 in new memberships. She urged everyone to check the updated website.
Terry Edwards said that approximately $7,000 in donations was received from Bryan Schlotterback’s “One Man, 200 miles, Two Days!” event September 23 through 25. This included a $350 and $1500 donation from Hormel, and $250 from Wal-Mart. Due to the inclement weather, Bryan completed 151.5 miles, and ran all but 6 hours
KAA will use the old Schmaltz’s building for Living Windows on November 19. It was suggested that Bryan Schlotterback be available to sign autographs. It was also suggested that a pre-lighted tree be purchased and decorated, chances be sold, then after the tree is used in the Festival of Trees on November 21 and 22 it will be awarded to the winner.
Pennie said that Sadler Signs to make and install a sign with the Panther and Alumni logos that will cover the back of the new scoreboard, at a cost of $2,877.99.
Next year’s plans for the stadium include additional 400 seats, 200 on each side of the current Home seats, and new fencing around the entire block. When done, there will be a re-dedication ceremony with placement of the historical plaque and time capsule.
Fundraising ideas for consideration:
Linda Hicks reported that 4 men have agreed to do appraisals for an “Antiques Roadshow” fundraiser on either April 17 or 24, at a cost of $100 each. They have done this show before, and suggested fees of $6.00 per item or 3 for $15.00, and that food also be available for sale. Linda will check with the Knoxville Fair Board about the availability of the Show Barn, but will need volunteers to work on the event during the winter months.
It was asked if there were more grants available, and Pennie and Connie will check into the possibility of applying for the Vision Iowa grant.
Pennie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on November 11, 2009 at 6:30 PM at Swamp Fox.
