Meeting Minutes for July 8, 2009

Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary:
Nick and Melanie Woolsey gave a recap to the board of the 1st Annual SOS 5k Race held on June 6. In spite of only 2 months planning and the rainy weather, 100 runners registered for the event. The 2nd Annual SOS 5k race is already set for June 12, 2010.

Treasurer’s Report:
Pennie reported that SOS again received a grant of $2000 from the Marion County Foundation, which will be utilized to place a historical marker at the stadium. Also, all billings and detailed statements of projects completed at the stadium have been submitted to the State Historical Society for the $100,000 grant reimbursement.

Current Events Update:
Stadium Clean-up will be held August 26 at 5:30 pm. Volunteers are urged to bring brooms, dustpans, gloves, and any other items that could be utilized. Pat Kading reported on the Spaghetti Dinner/Celebration Iowa event to be held at the Celebration Church on July 15. She has sent many email notifications of the event, placed an ad in the Knoxville Journal Express whose cost was mainly paid by McKay Insurance Agency, and placed flyers all around town. She also reported that a good portion of the cost of the dinner will be from donations by Barilla’s, Pizza Hut, and Fazoli’s, and that local chapters of Beta Sigma Phi sororities will help provide desserts. New volunteers that had participated in the 5k race, including Lee Sandmeier and friends from his boxing career, also volunteered to help. Pat also reported that she has contacted over 400 former cheerleaders from the past 5 decades, and has confirmation from 20 that will be at Homecoming. 9 classes have confirmed that they will hold their reunions that weekend.

Stadium Update:
Pennie reported that the old scoreboard is located in the Bus Barn at KHS. She is also checking with local businesses to have flags made to hang outside the old concession stand during games. Pennie received a $2,630 bid for the fencing and gates at the entrance to the stadium to provide a better flow for ticket sales. The school will provide the labor. Troy Pearson presented an estimate of $1,780 to move the steps on the Press Box to the opposite side. The school will replace the windows in the Press Box.

Pennie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on August 12, 2009 at 6:30 PM at Swamp Fox.
