Meeting Minutes for June 10, 2009

Knoxville Alumni Association Board Meeting Summary:
Candy reported that the 2009 KAA scholarship recipients were Zach Crabtree, Jay Hoch, Kaurie Kincaid, Ashley Larson, and KAA endowed scholarship recipient Carson Peterson. Scholarships were presented at the Dollars For Scholars Awards Presentation on May 20 by Class of 1953 member Ned Job, Bob Edwards, and KAA Board President Kevin Stittsworth, who also presented the award for Bryan Schlotterback who could not be present.

Treasurer’s Report:
Bob Edwards collected $180 from can & bottle redemptions just in the last 2 weeks.

Current Events Update:
Pennie reported that 100 runners registered for the 1st First Annual 5K Race held on June 6 in spite of the rainy weather. The Knoxville Veterinary Clinic sponsored the medals for the winners in each age category, and brass plaques on stadium stones were given to the male and female overall winners Bryan Schlotterback and Chris Cunningham. The KNIA/KRLS Big Red Radio was also there to help with announcements and award presentations.

Pat Kading reported that invitations were sent today for Homecoming 2009, celebrating “5 Decades of Spirit” with participation from past KHS cheerleaders. 10 KHS Alumni classes will hold their reunions during Homecoming.

Fundraising:
KAA will co-sponsor the Celebration Iowa Singer & Jazz Band presentation at Celebrate community Church on July 15. A portion of ticket sales will go to SOS. KAA will also sponsor a Spaghetti Dinner before the concert, with special prices for Veterans, with all proceeds to benefit SOS.

It was suggested that the brass plaques on stadium stones used as awards in the SOS 5K race be sold as a fundraiser.

Pennie circulated one of the memorial envelopes to be placed at all local funeral homes.

Shirley Ward has agreed to manage a second SOS Rummage Sale in the fall.

Stadium Update:
Pennie reported that the poolhouse and old concession stand are complete, and only 3 rows of seating still need to be completed. The new scoreboard is scheduled to be placed this month. The school has agreed to move the steps to the Press Box to the opposite end to facilitate the flow of traffic from ticket sales in the Towers.

Stadium Clean-Up day has been scheduled for Wednesday, August 26 at 5:30 pm.

Pennie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held on July 8, 2009 at 6:30 PM at Swamp Fox.
