Meeting Minutes for May 13, 2009
Current Events Update:
Volunteers will be needed to help at the 1st SOS 5K Run/Walk to be held on June
6, 2009 at 9:30 am. Plaques will be placed on limestone rocks from the stadium to
be awarded to the male and female winners, at a cost of $16.70 each, to be made
by Gibson Jewelry.
The new owners of Options have donated the Knoxville Alumni and SOS stock to SOS,
including 31 SOS long & short sleeved T-shirts, 1 SOS sweatshirt, 6 black golf shirts
and 1 Izod golf shirt, 1 gold hooded sweatshirt, 5 black KAA sweatshirts, 5 gold
KAA sweatshirts, and 2 black KAA windbreakers. Pennie suggested that these items
be sold only to alumni members, and will bring it to a vote at the next Alumni board
meeting.
Pat has invited cheerleaders from the 1940 through the 1990 classes to the Homecoming
activities, celebrating 5 Decades of Spirit.
Stadium Update:
SOS members met with the school board Tuesday evening at the stadium to discuss
the deterioration of the field. Estimated cost to rebuild would be at least $115,000,
but nothing would be done until after this season. Pennie stated that SOS would
help with the fundraising efforts, but that SOS funds are already committed, and
some bills have not yet been received. Bob Edwards suggested that a challenge be
made to current and past football players to pledge $10 towards the cost.
The scoreboard from KCCI and the Electrical Workers Union will be installed by the
school in June. Cost estimates will be obtained to have 2 Alumni flags made to have
at the old concession stand during home games and to carry in the Homecoming parade.
The entrance gates on the Home side will be used this fall, and the steps on the
press box may be moved to the south end to improve traffic flow.
Plaques with the KAA logo will be placed on the donor walls. Guard rails will be
placed in front of the walls to keep vehicles from running into them.
Bob will work on repairs needed to the Panther.
Fundraising ideas for consideration:
There may be a possibility of holding another garage sale.
It was suggested that people with extra Knoxville school annuals donate them to
the alumni, if the library already has them. Duplicates will be given to the Marion
County Historical Society.
Pennie asked if there was any further business. There was none. The meeting was
adjourned. The next meeting will be held on June 10, 2009 at 6:30 PM at Swamp Fox.
