Things are coming together nicely for our 50th class reunion. Still plenty of time to include your ideas so please don't be timid.
The first event is 6:30 Thursday evening, September 22nd at Taso's restaurant (Southwest corner of the square think old Ben Franklin). We have a room reserved from 6:30 to closing, around 9:30, and can order from the menu or enjoy the buffet. Gary and Carol Kingery are providing the hay wagon for the parade on Friday and we can decide how we need to decorate it (or not). I'm thinking that someone with artistic ability may volunteer to do one or two large signs that identifies us as the KHS Class of 1961.
Next, on Friday we prepare the float for the parade and then assemble for the parade. I don't have the times and place yet and but hope to have them by the time I send the next, and final, reunion update. Friday evening is the Homecoming Game followed by a dance at the Dyer Hudson Building located on the fairgrounds. We have rented the Bingley Building, next to Dyer Hudson, for the day and evening to use to visit. We will have finger foods catered and soft drinks available for the class and guests. Beer and wine will be available at Dyer Hudson.
Saturday, for those interested, we will have a cultural experience and leave from the new high school parking lot for an Iowa wine tasting experience and lunch at 10:00AM. If there is sufficient interest to warrant a bus, I'll rent one. Cost for the bus would be about $25 per person. Otherwise, we'll use automobiles. We'll be back mid-afternoon in time to get ready for the reunion dinner. Saturday evening we meet at 6:30 at the Bos Landen Conference Center for the main event, a social hour and reunion dinner. I will invite as many of our former teachers, coaches, and school staff as I can find as guests of the class. However, I will probably miss a few, so, if you are in touch with any please invite them. Parents, relatives and any friends are welcome to the dinner to help us celebrate. It would be really neat if you would invite members of KHS classes who graduated close to us. There will be no formal activities except introduction of class guests. Dress is whatever you feel comfortable with.
Sunday morning from 9-11:00 we will enjoy a Sunday service followed by brunch at the Bos Landen Conference Center. Cean will conduct the non-denominational service; Penny is coordinating the music with Marijane and Jim Mason (Yep, he can sing and he volunteered). Dress - Sunday casual (whatever you feel comfortable in). Guests are certainly welcome, no host. This will close out the reunion.
Cost:
Thursday evening at Taso's - Individual checks
Friday evening at the Bingley Building - $10 per class member and spouse, pizza, wings and soft drinks (Does not cover admission to the dance in the Dyer Hudson Building next door)
Saturday Reunion Dinner - $30 per attendee, includes room costs, meal, desert, a non-alcoholic drink and gratuity. (Teachers, coaches and school staff guests are guest of the class and will not pay). Payment for friends, family and members from other classes is required. No host alcoholic drinks will be available from a bar set up in our dinner area.
Sunday Brunch - I don't have a good number yet but plan on $12 per person, including gratuity.
I need to know by August 15, for planning purposes, if you are attending, which events you plan on attending and how many will be in your party for each event. If you want to go on the wine tasting trip and you would prefer a bus let me know that also. I will need payment for the reunion dinner and Friday evening events for you and your guest no later than September 15th. Make checks payable to me, Dennis M. Ridnouer. (No, I won't leave the country with the money but I don't want another bank account). I understand there will be changes, additions and subtractions right up to the day of each event and those can be handled on an individual basis, no problem. But, like any business, Bos Landen wants their money up front and the numbers are important for planning.
