The Knoxville Middle School building was first used as the Knoxville Community High School in 1955, and the first addition was built in 1960. After the new high school was built in 1996, the staff and students of Nell McGowan Junior High moved in during the 1997-1998 school year, along with the 6th grade from the middle school at West Elementary, to serve grade levels six through eight.
